Things have been really busy around here lately. Since I got back from a mini vacation in late August, it has been go, go, go.
This weekend, I ventured down to Schoenchen for the first time in my life. The ladies of St. Anthony Altar Society were preparing for their annual German Feast. They were so nice, knowledgeable and fun to be around. I love stories where I can’t wait to get back to the office and write them — and this was one of them.
However, my photographer and I had to go home and cry about it first. You see, not only were they making dumplings and chopping meat and potatoes, they were also “schmeltzing” onions. Standing in the same room made our eyes burn so bad we probably weren’t safe to drive home — and we weren’t even the ones handling the onions!
I’m not sure I’ve ever had felt the need to cry after a story quite like that before.
It’s been so busy around here lately that I haven’t had the opportunity to venture out into our area as much as I like — but the Schoenchen ladies made me feel right at home. I’m just glad I was able to escape before they fired up the sauerkraut.
